You may remember a few weeks ago I wrote about my dad on Father’s Day. Well today is my Mum’s Birthday **th Birthday. ( I’ll not give it away Mum!)
What is there to say about my Mum…… Where do I start.
Ever since I was a child my earliest memories of things mum used to do with us. Kate and I were fortunate that Dad struggled through some tough times at work so Mum could bring up Kate and give us a great childhood. I am not going to try to suggest times we tough for us. Even if they were we never knew about it. We had a great childhood.
Don’t get me wrong, Mum did her fair share of helping on the farm, whether it be book-keeping, egg collecting or even the odd delivery or 2!
As kids we went everywhere, not just once, but most places twice and some even 3 times or more. There was the time we missed the last train back from Barry Island and the time she took a cub pack to Youlbury and the Commissioner set fire to the campsite which caused 300 + Cubs and Scouts to start singing: “Campsites Burning, Campsites Burning………” You know the tune….
Whether it be just us or with my cousins, Simon & Paul or as part of her cub pack ( I’ll come on to this), we had some great days out and left me ( and I am sure Kate) so wonderful childhood memories. I just wish we had digital cameras in those time so I could post some photos!
One thing I do have a picture of and really need to question Mum on is how she dressed us as Children!
Mum has a passion for giving. She has been a cub scout leader for longer that I have been around, taught special needs in the local primary school for what has to be over 30 year until she retired last year and got involved with numerous local initiative and functions. All this on top of being married to my Dad which is a job in itself.
Mum was also recognised for all her efforts with a British Empire Medal from The Queen a couple of years ago. In fact she was one of the first recipients when they re-introduced this honour.
My Mum is also very headstrong ( I am going to embarrass you again now). Dad is a firm believe in leasing cars so him and my Uncle John got one each through the business. Nothing fancy. A Renault Clio for Mum and a Mondeo for John. To cut a long story short they had to swap due to mileage allowance on each car. Mum was less than impressed. She was that unimpressed, the first time she got in the Mondeo she drove it into Dads barn!!! She got the Clio back…….
My mum has always been there, not only for me and Kate but also for My cousins, the countless cubs that she has taken camping, the many thousands of Children that have been through Crowmarsh Primary School and more.
Happy Birthday Mum, Thank You for everything and I hope you have a great Birthday.
Love You xx
